Journey to IT

My story begins in a small island paradise of Palau in Micronesia. After graduating high school in 2006, I decided to move to the US for better opportunities. From Seattle, I enlisted in the U.S Navy as a Personnel Specialist. I was shipped right away to boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois. After completing eight weeks of training, I was off to Personnel Specialist training school in Meridian, Mississippi. Then the day came when I got my first duty station orders to San Diego Naval Station. Throughout the four years in the Navy I had the opportunity to see the world and meet a lot of people from different backgrounds.

  1. That’s definitely, an interesting origin story and its great to see that people still feel that they can come to the United States for better opportunities. Seeing that you’re from outside of the continental US it makes we curious as to what life is like where you’re from. I was born and raised here in San Diego so I’m accustomed to a big city life. I also joined the military to get away and do things different with my life. I’d imagine that it was a culture shock to some extent. Of all the places that you’ve traveled to I wonder which were some of your favorite locations.

  2. Great story Ronald, I think that you have a rough time by taking the decision to come to this country and living the rest the family, friend, basically your life, to bet in a better lifestyle. I admirer your courage to take that decision. Also, your hard work on here, to complete the dream.

  3. First and foremost, I want to commend you on taking that leap into the unknown, for a chance of better opportunities. I am glad it all worked in you favor. The one thing about the Military that is hard to deny, is the fact that you are exposed to a multitude of people from different walks of life. Another perk of the being in the Military is being able to see the world, well, not for all and sometimes parts of the world that you would rather not experience. In any case, it’s still an experience; all on the Military’s dime.

  4. this is an awesome story about you joining the navy and coming to the states, and now starting your journey in IT. Many people don’t have the mindset of leaving their home to go and pursue a career and better life for themselves I give you major props on doing this because I know you’ve had to accomplish many challenges to get to where you are today.
